SIE passing score

The SIE passing score is 70. Here is what that means.

You need a 70 to pass the SIE. It is a score on a 0 to 100 scale after equating, not a plain percentage of questions right.1,2,3

Why 70 is not simply 70% correct

Different candidates see different sets of questions. FINRA puts every score on a common scale, with a statistical adjustment for small differences in difficulty between sets, so the same standard applies to everyone.1,3

FINRA does not publish how many correct answers a 70 takes on any given set, so this site does not guess a number.1,2

Only the 75 scored questions count. The 5 pretest questions do not, and you cannot tell which ones they are.2,3

What you see after the exam

  • Pass or fail is shown at once.2
  • A pass comes with no score details.2,4
  • A fail report shows your overall score and your performance in each section.2,4
  • For an online appointment, the official report is emailed within three business days.4

Questions

Is there a penalty for wrong answers?

No. There is no penalty for guessing, so answer every question.3

Does my practice score here equal an exam score?

No. Practice scores show your accuracy on our own questions. They are not equated and do not predict an exam result.
